1971 -Cleveland Landmarks Commission created by city ordinance to preserve and protect Cleveland’s structures and sites.
-Progressive Corporation Art Collection established; unique pieces, paintings, photography, sculpture, cutting edge work and symbol of Progressive’s commitment to change. -Cleveland Restoration Society founded to preserve and restore Cleveland’s historic resources in the inner city. -New Organization for the Visual Arts (NOVA) Gallery opened. Later became service organization that created exhibitions and juried shows. Closed 1999.
-“City Canvases”, 10 murals on exterior walls of buildings in downtown Cleveland. Sponsored by Cleveland Area Arts Council, NOVA and Greater Cleveland Growth Association. 1975 Justice Center Public Art project includes regional commissions.
-SPACES established to provide a place for emerging artists to experiment. -Cowan Pottery Museum established at the Rocky River Public Library.
-Wolf’s Fine Art Gallery and Auctioneers established; first permanent auction gallery. Closed in 2001.
-Malcom and Ernestine Brown opened The Malcom Brown Gallery. Malcom voted the 1979 Teacher of the Year.
