1951 -Roy Lichtenstein worked in Cleveland as a free lance designer until 1957. -First Jewish Community Center community wide juried art show.
-African-American stained glass artist Douglas Phillips established studio. He died in 1995
-African American Museum established as Afro-American culture and Historical Society Museum. 1957 Howard Wise Gallery of Present Day Painting opened. Moved to New York City in 1961.
-Sherman E. Lee appointed director of the Cleveland Museum of Art. He retired in 1983. He wrote the definitive “History of Far Eastern Art.”
-Erieview plan adopted by City Council. 1st phase included Erieview Tower (’64) the Federal Bldg (’67) One Erieview Plaza (’65) Bond Court Office Bldg. (’71).
