-First issue of “Fine Arts”, a weekly publication, closed 1973.

-Horace E. Potter Memorial Award for excellence in craftsmanshipannual award established at May Show.

1965

-Museum of Modern Art (NYC). exhibition “The Responsive Eye” ( a perceptual art show) featuring Cleveland artists Richard Anuskiewicz, Frank Hewitt, Julian Stanczak, & Edwin Mieczkowski.

-1st community wide juried photography show sponsored by Jewish Community Center.

-Ohio Arts Council (OAC) founded.
Over 100 artists fellowship awards given since.


1967

-James Gayle, first African-American photographer hired by “Plain Dealer.”
Died in 1991.

-American Institute of Graphic Arts Cleveland Chapter founded to present communication arts, practitioners and secure funding to bring them to Cleveland.


1968

-Cleveland Center for Contemporary Art
founded, dedicated to showing innovative,
challenging art by local, national and international artists. Founders Nina Sundell and Majorie Talalay.


1979

-Wolf’s Fine Art Gallery and Auctioneers established; first permanent auction gallery. Closed in 2001.


1980

-Malcom and Ernestine Brown opened The Malcom Brown Gallery. Malcom voted the 1979 Teacher of the Year.
