Leza McVey (b.1907 d.1984) Using old wool garments dyed and wool, Lesa McVey created this rug on commission. Working not by pre-design, rather as she went, she created a totally original design using a traditional weaving method. This took three years. Her colors are a rich mix of muted tones--avocado green, purples and lavenders; her patterns are squares and diagonals that evolve as she creates. McVey's early career was as a ceramist and a book about this aspect is in publication now. McVey's eye conditions Maltafever and Glaucoma caused her to move to textile. |
