Carl Floyd (b. 1936) Since 1967, Carl Floyd has focused on developing large-scale site-specific sculptures. This piece was selected from nine designs through a competition sponsored by the Ohio Arts Council for the development of a work in the market square across from the West Side Market. About 1000 people in the near West Side neighborhoods created tiles to place on the sculptor's structure. Recorded history almost disappeared as the author searched for visuals recording the events and sculpture piece. There is a beautiful out-of-print booklet, and no art organization had them. They will now. Floyd was Professor of Sculpture, Chairman of the Sculpture Department, Cleveland Institute of Art. Other site-specific projects can be seen in Marietta, Perry, Vermillion, Ohio. |
